North Texas Commission Applauds Deal Reached on USMCA

Trade Deal Ensuring Nearly 300,000 North Texas Jobs Will Be Safe

North Texas – The North Texas Commission and the leaders of the North Texas region applaud the long-awaited news on the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, also known as USMCA. This trilateral agreement, serving as the next iteration of NAFTA, will ensure that the nearly 300,000 North Texans whose jobs rely on trade with Mexico or Canada will continue to be active members of our region’s strong economy.

The impact of trade between North Texas and Canada and Mexico is undeniable. Bilateral trade from the Dallas-Fort Worth region to Canada is $9.47 billion annually putting our region seventh of the 100 top U.S. metros in trade with our neighbors to the north. North Texas exports $7.371 billion in goods annually, and $1.92 billion in services.

Our region’s trade with Mexico is approximately $8.95 billion annually. Twenty percent of North Texas exports goes to Mexico, and 37 percent of our agricultural exports goes to Mexico.

“This is indeed an exciting day for Fort Worth and all of North Texas,” said Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price. “The impending passage of USMCA is a victory for our region, as it solidifies our strong international business community and ensures the future with our two top trading partners is secure and prosperous.”
