The North Texas Commission, a regional, non-profit organization that markets North Texas, advocates issues with no city or county boundaries and fosters collaboration, celebrates its 44th anniversary with Dallas entrepreneur Mark Cuban. The 44th Annual Members’ Luncheon will be held on Thursday, September 24 at noon at the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas.

Innovation and entrepreneurship runs deep in the veins of every North Texan. With one new person added to our region’s population every five minutes, North Texans know how to make a pitch. Cuban will speak about what we as regional leaders need to do behind the pitch, how we need to ensure that our growth can keep up with demand to ensure that every North Texan has access to critical infrastructure.

“We add a million new people every seven years, and this growth is only expected to continue,” said Mabrie Jackson, president and CEO of the North Texas Commission. “We need innovative thinkers to keep North Texas’s economy vibrant and growing, and apply that entrepreneurial, fearless spirit to tackling some of our toughest challenges.”

Possibly one of the most prominent innovators in our region, Cuban has had a spirit for business since the age of 12. He moved to Dallas after graduating from Indiana University and in 1995 with long-time friend Todd Wagner developed an internet based solution for audio streaming. In just four short years, Broadcast.com (then Audionet) would be sold to Yahoo for $5.6 billion dollars. Since his acquisition of the Dallas Mavericks in 2000, he has overseen the Mavs competing in the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history in 2006 – and becoming NBA World Champions in 2011. They are currently listed as one of Forbes’ most valuable franchises in sports. In addition to the Mavs, Mark is chairman and CEO of AXS tv, one of ABC’s “Sharks” on the hit show Shark Tank, and an investor in an ever-growing portfolio of businesses.

Sponsors of the North Texas Commission’s 44th Annual Members’ Luncheon include AT&T, Breitling Energy, BNSF Railway, Central Market, J&S Audio Visual and Verizon.
