Late NTC President, Dan Petty, Inducted into Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame

The Cotton Bowl Athletic Association inducted late Dan Petty into the 2016 Class of the Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame. Even though he was a star player for the University of Texas, Dan was inducted for his commitment to the annual college football match-up.

The CBAA cited Dan’s integrity as the Team Selection Committee Chairman. Coaches and athletic directors knew that the word and handshake of Dan was golden. He opened every meeting with a bit of sage advice to his fellow committee members…“It’s time to take off your school hat and time to put on your Cotton Bowl hat.” Very similar advice he gave as leader of the North Texas Commission  – “It’s time to take off your city hat and time to put on your North Texas hat.”

Petty enjoyed a unique perspective on the Classic as a player at Texas in the 1960 game, then as CBAA Chairman, and later as the leader of the bowl’s most high-profile committee for 10 seasons. Few people can say they have been involved with the Cotton Bowl Classic in such a personal and professional way.

Dan served as the President and CEO of the North Texas Commission for 17 years until his retirement in late 2010. He passed away in January 2011.
